Did you roll your eyes when you heard about *another* social media app? Same.
But, upon further inspection, reflection, and scrolling, I’ve decided Threads can be a hugely beneficial social media app for certain business owners. Maybe that’s you! Keep reading to find out.
What It Is
Threads is a new social media app for “sharing with text”. Designed by Instagram and linked to your Instagram account, it’s incredibly similar to Twitter. Like…extremely similar to Twitter.
So much so that Elon Musk is threatening legal action. Juicy stuff.
Anyways, Threads posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.
That’s the basics – let’s get into the details.
Why It’s Different
After spending some time on the app, I have three major observations.
Major Observation #1: Threads is Unhinged
And we love that. It’s early days, but Threads seems to be an app where users can be as creative as their weird little hearts desire, without having to stress about algorithms and picture perfect graphics and lip syncing.
Major Observation #2: Personality is Paramount
If you’re a witty gal who has lots to say, Threads is for you! Personality-packed brands like Chandler Honey will thrive on Threads.
If you want to hide behind a carefully curated feed or avoid saying what you *really* think, stick to Instagram. No shame – there’s a time and place for both.
This might make Threads a challenge for introverted creators and business owners (like myself), but we got this.
Major Observation #3: It’s A Low-Cost Way to Market Your Business
Threads is a way to market your business without investing in expensive visual assets. If you’re a business owner who doesn’t have photography, videography, or graphics, Threads is for you.
But you will need a few original thoughts and a desire to share your personality.
Who It’s For
Technically, everyone.
Who will find the most success on Threads? Brands who have personality. Brands who can be engaging, entertaining, inspirational, witty, all (mostly) through text.
How It Works
Download the app here. It’s so easy to make a profile because it’s linked to your Instagram, so you can “import” everything – even your photo. I was up and running in literal seconds.
Even if you don’t know how or what to post, setting up your account is a great first step. Follow brands and creators in your niche and see what everyone’s up to. We don’t know how long Threads will be around or how it’ll evolve, so you don’t need a “Threads strategy” right away.
