The oh-so-trendy day in a life. Usually these are reels or TikToks but we’re bringing one to the blog today!
For the record, not a single day is the same for me. That was the case when I was an employee, and I loved having that structure. But working for myself and supporting different clients means each day is very unique, and that has its benefits too.
It’s taken time to adjust to the freestyle-style of freelancing but I’m grateful for the freedom & choice I have to spend my days (mostly) how I please.
Okay intro done – let’s get into the day in my life.
5AM – Yes I’m Insane
I get up around 5am because A) the morning is my most productive time and B) two days of the week I go to the gym. I like to get up at the same time everyday, hence 5am everyday.
If I’m going to the gym I’ll do that – ya know, walk over there, lift some things, put them down, walk back home.
If I’m not going to the gym I’ll dive into my morning routine:
- Elaborate skincare routine with treasures like this adaptogenic toner
- Make coffee & play wordle (thanks to my aunt for getting me into that – there is no going back)
- Morning pages and a daily journal that’s similar to the Five Minute Journal, but different because I created it myself! I check in with my body, mood, and energy levels. Write down at least three things I’m grateful for, something I’m excited about, the most important thingI have to do that day, and my affirmations.
- I pour my coffee and head to my desk.
Anywhere from 7AM-10AM
I always start the day with a quick email browse to see if there’s anything urgent before I move on to my most important task of the day – usually some kind of copywriting because that takes the most brain power. Or I’ll plan out a client’s feed or their social media calendar, because that also takes lots of brain juice.
Then I’ll move on to designing Instagram stories or graphics, or creating client’s email newsletters.
The entire time I’m working I’m snacking away, sipping on something cold-brewed or sparkling, and playing a myriad of productivity playlists or tiktok spotify playlists because for some reason that helps me work and it feels very on brand.
12PM – Lunch & Iced Matcha
This is a sacred time in the day: lunch time. I always have a big salad with romaine, kale, roasted chickpeas, chicken, some kind of cheese (usually feta) and an olive oil salad dressing with apple cider vinegar. It’s quick and simple and filling. I’ll enjoy this while I watch whatever netflix show I’m obsessed with, because the brain needs a break from all the screen time lol *wink emoji*
And then I’ll have my iced matcha. Year round, my daily iced matcha is my favourite time of day.
1PM – Keep Working
After lunch I’ll keep on working until my to-do list is checked and completed. This totally varies – most days I’m done around 6pm, but sometimes earlier and sometimes later.
7PM – My Hard Stop
This is my hard stop, unless something is super urgent (like a launch) I won’t work past this time. At 7pm I’ll close my laptop and put my phone away (sometimes…) and spend about thirty minutes stretching and doing any exercises from my physio. Totally unrelated to social media but I have the joints of an eighty year old and sitting all day does not help!
Then I’ll spend some time making tea, doing my evening skincare, and getting ready for bed. Once I’m in bed I’ll read for thirty minutes and then it’s lights out.
Thanks for reading all about a day in my life! I post snippets all the time on Instagram so if you don’t follow me there already, come join in on the social & snacks & fun.
