When you’re creating all day long, feeling *inspired* can take a bit of work.
This hit me HARD when I first took my business full-time.
I went from creating content maybe three or four hours per day (and spending the rest of the day in meetings & my inbox) to creating 8+ hours per day. Which sounds like a dream (and it is, in many ways) but it also means feeling creative and inspired and coming up with dozens of ideas for eight hours straight.
So looking for inspiration, looking for creative ideas, opening myself up to new ways of approaching a project is something I have to schedule into my weekly routine.
Here’s how!
For Design Inspiration: Fashion Magazines
While I’m a social media manager, and a large part of my job is strategy, another large part is content creation. If you’re a business owner running your social you’re probably experiencing the same.
You might design Instagram stories and graphics, come up with relatable memes, write compelling copy that converts, and more. Samesies. To find design inspiration, fashion magazines are where it’s at.
Every Sunday morning I pick up a coffee and go back to my apartment with a stack of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and anything else that caught my eye.
I flip through pages of beautiful photography, soak up all the eye-catching design and style trends, and consider how these trends will find their way into social media.
Even though my clients are in the food & wellness space, I prefer fashion magazines to food magazines. It gives my brain a break, avoids tunnel vision, I can see what’s going on in other industries and consider how I can apply it to my own work.
For Marketing Inspiration: Books, Books, and More Books
If you’re a reader, try incorporating marketing, consumer behaviour, and personal development books into your routine. You’ll learn and get lots of inspiration for how to make your marketing more effective.

For Trending Audio & Copy: Music
Music drives an unbelievable amount of pop culture, especially on social media.
From the latest TikTok audio to trending catch phrases, music drives a lot of what we say and do on social media. While I listen to a lot of music, it’s not always the kind that trends on social media so I rely heavily on TikTok to find the latest audio (what’s trending on TikTok now will likely trend on Instagram in 2-4 weeks) and what trending catchphrases everyone’s using, which can be incorporated into your captions.
If you haven’t downloaded TikTok, get on it! You can set a timer for 10 – 15 minutes per day to watch videos and get a sense of what’s trending.
For Memes & Copy: TV Shows
If you realllyyyyy don’t want to download TikTok, another place to source inspiration and stay on top of social media trends is TV shows. They’re another piece of pop culture that drives what everyone posts on social media. In this case, they’re often used for creating relatable memes and catch phrases, which can be used to build community.
This is why it’s important to know what kind of entertainment your community consumes so you can create memes just for them, that’ll they’ll actually resonate with.
