If you’re wondering if your business is ready for social media management, congrats! Making the decision to invest in your business is a big one, and if you’re starting to get curious about social media management, you’ve probably experienced a lot of growth recently, and you should celebrate.
Investing in your business, and specifically investing in a social media manager, is a BIG deal and it makes sense that you want to know this is the right decision for you, and a sustainable decision for your business.
While nobody knows your business like you do, keep reading for four things to consider before hiring a social media manager.
Ask Yourself: Do You Have a Clear Brand Identity, a Functioning Website, and Have You Hired a Product Photographer?
Social media is just one piece of your business, and without a clear brand identity, functioning website, and high-quality product photography, social media won’t get you very far.
Ask Yourself: How Long Have You Been in Business?
Every business and every business owner is different.
While you might want to invest in a social media manager right away, others manage their social media for a couple of years before passing it to a dedicated social media manager.
The latter is an approach I recommend, and it works well for two reasons.
- While managing your social media, you get to speak directly to your customers. You’ll gain firsthand insight into who your customer is, what they want, and how you can best serve them. That information is invaluable when you’ve just started your business.
- You’ll learn what social media deliverables work best for your brand. Do your customers engage more on Instagram stories or grid posts? Reels or memes? Understanding where your audience is will help you choose the right social media manager and the right deliverables.
I recommend waiting to work with a social media manager until your business is about 2-3 years old. From my experience, that’s the sweet spot where a social media manager can make the biggest impact on your growth.
Ask Yourself: Why Do You Want to Invest in Social Media Management?
Understanding why you’re building your team will help you find the best social media manager for you, while also providing clarity to your social media manager about how they can help.
It’ll also tell you if there’s other ways to invest in your business that’ll make a bigger impact. For example, perhaps what you really need is social media consulting, or templates to make content creation easier, or something totally different.
Ask Yourself: What Are Your Business Goals? What Are Your Social Media Goals?
You know that having a deep understanding of where your business is and where you want to be is vital for success, but it’s also important for growing your team. A clear idea of what success means to you will create a smooth, streamlined experience for both you and your social media manager because you’ll both be on the same page.
And when you have a clear understanding of your business and your goals, you can get more out of your marketing.
